Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ celebrates class of 2017

FREDERICTON – More than 2000 students graduated from New Brunswick Community College (Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ) last week during ceremonies at each of the six campuses across the province.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s class of 2017 hails from every corner of New Brunswick, as well as six additional Canadian provinces and 25 countries. This reflects the values and growth of the college.

“Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is a diverse community and we work hard to ensure our College is a place where all learners feel at home, supported and celebrated as they pursue their education,” said Marilyn Luscombe, President and CEO of New Brunswick Community College. “We are very proud of our graduates; all of them have worked hard to get here, to further their education and achieve their goals.”

One student from each campus was also presented with a Governor General’s Medal honouring the outstanding academic achievement of earning the highest cumulative GPA at their campus.

First awarded in 1873 by the Earl of Dufferin, the Governor General’s Medal has become one of the most prestigious awards a student at a Canadian educational institution may receive.

The 2017 Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Governor General’s Medal recipients were,

  • Woodstock -- Cameron Astle Crain, Business Administration - Management
  • Fredericton -- Melanie Carson, Business Administration - Accounting
  • Moncton – Trang Tran, Business Administration - Accounting
  • St. Andrews -- Renee Maria Buerkle, Practical Nurse
  • Saint John -- Raymond Junior Campbell, Process Control Technician
  • Miramichi --  Michaela Jardine, Business Administration

During her address, Luscombe wished the graduates well as they move on to the next steps in their careers and welcomed them to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Alumni family. She also noted that Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ graduates have proven time and again they have the skills and training they need to be successful in their field and in the workforce.

“The numbers are in and they show that 91% of our 2015 graduates were working within one year after graduation and, of those employed graduates, 93% are working here, in New Brunswick,” said Luscombe.

She also encouraged the class of 2017 to be inclusive, welcoming and passionate community leaders who “get out and rock the world!”
